Birth of Impressionism with Litz Plummer and Velocity Circus

Velocity Ringmaster

Ringmaster Francesca Balague

Velocity Circus will bring to light the popular performing art spectacles of the French impressionist era...with a twist. A Pas de Deux performed on point to contemporary music, female Can-Can acrobats welcome a male to their posse, a time traveling Ring Master du Cirque, and the sinuous contortions of circus artists both inspire and are inspired by the brush strokes of impressionism.

Velocity Circus introduces to the stage Imagination and Inspiration

imagination and inspiration

Contortion has been an honored and celebrated tradition in Mongolia for several hundred years, believed to have evolved from the Buddhist Tsam Mask Dances in which the forms of animals or other natural occurrances are represented. The poses of Mongolian contortion all have names which represent the natural images they are depicting, such as a flowers or birds. As a young child of 6 in Mongolia Bolormma Batbayer began classes to become the flower and the bird.

Bolormma joined Gregangelo and Velocity circus in 2005 through Velocity Circus/CUE's residency program and cultural exchange. Since 2005 she has blossomed into her role as primary contortionist for the company and has graced multiple staged performances, private events and cultural exchanges. As is the legacy of the great artist, she is now teaching traditonal Mongolian contortion to young Mongolian artists of the same age at which she began and on this night at the de Young Museum she presents to the audience her protege's "Imagination and Inspiration."

RSA Conference Recap
ekara city hall

During the recent RSA Conference held here in San Francisco, Gregangelo & Velocity Arts and Entertainment produced themed entertainment and branding events for 3 clients of varying scope, size and target audiences including the RSA closing night Gala held at City Hall in San Francisco.

To recap one of the branding events for Vormetric -

Our client Vormetric had participated in previous conferences and wanted to do something very different to garner attendees' and guests' for a VIP cocktail reception following one of the conference days. Based on our company's previous street events and conferences we suggested the best time to get the attendees' attention is during morning registration when attendees are focused, eager for the day and pleasantly surprised by the morning spectacle and greetings. We created an off the wall, elegant yet humorous event to set the vibe for the day. We partnered with Vormetric's brand ambassadors for the street campaign under an umbrella theme of" Vormetric is Performance!" The artists programmed for the event were matched with a Vormetric Brand Attribute.

We did this for each street artist and continued to communicate the brand attributes throughout the day. We customized the make-up with the Vormetric logo and place the logos onto the costumes as well. The event was highly successful including the cocktail reception and our client enthusiastically expressed her satisfaction and appreciation for the program and attention to details.

CUE International was organized and chartered as a California non-profit organization in 2003 and has been awarded federal tax exemption 501 (c) (3) status. The organization is an outgrowth of the artistic and educational programs associated with Gregangelo and Velocity Circus, a world-class entertainment company that specializes in multi-cultural circus arts, theatrical presentations and arts-in-education programming.

This event is chaired by Libby and Craig Heimark who believe investing in our youth through the arts and empowerment initiatives at the local and international level creates stronger and more vibrant communities. In addition, this evening gala will introduce Wackadoodles in Wonderworld, a TV series and program initiative of CUE and Gregangelo & Velocity Circus. Honorary chairs, Libby and Craig Heimark speak to the efficacy of CUE's work, "All the world's youth should have access to opportunities that provide them with a way to locate their personal areas of success, voice and passion. CUE's work is a daily reminder that when youth are encouraged to use their physical gifts of athleticism, sharing experiences and good humor, they can soar through the air on a trapeze with confidence to pursue their dreams. This gala event will give all attendees the gift of experiencing their inner voice as they participate in trapeze arts, interactive remarkable environments and WACKADOODLE good humor. A ticket to this event will undoubtedly change your life in addition to the lives of so many youth. It is a television premiere circus experience with delicious food and drink! Gregangelo is inviting us to his party and we should all rush to participate in his magic."

Wackadoodles in Wonderworld
orangedarkhijav

"Wackadoodles in Wonderworld" transports kids and their families into an extraordinary world where fantastic creatures, characters, and adventures encourage them to open up to new experiences, take risks and look forward to challenges. For a half hour on television, we explore Wonderworld and Wackadoodles in a playful, "gravity-free" environment where we see even the familiar in new and curious ways.

The adventures, characters and fantastic creatures provide a safe, encouraging atmosphere where kids can take off on adventures that expand their knowledge of themselves, others and the world around them with confidence and curiosity. Through this program CUE will reach a wider community and partner with youth organizations to create positive changes in the community and world at large.

Wackadoodles in Wondeworld will be introduced and revealed on June 5, 2010 at the Black Tie, Tights and Tutus Fundraising Gala. The show will air in the fall of 2010 in 7 Bay Area Cities.

A Message from Darkhijav Damba
Gregangelo,

I would like to address my intent to begin a Mongolian School of Contortion and Folk Dance here in San Francisco Bay Area. I have deep desires to bring back to my community and fellow artists the rich cultural exchanges of art and ideas that I have come to know in this magnificent country that is the United States. I would like to study again with the Masters of Mongolian Folk Dance especially the elders that were my teachers as a young Mongolian Artist and share with them the richness of the artistic community here in San Francisco that I have come to call home. The rich stories and folklore that rests inside me, I wish to convey and teach to a Mongolian base of young students here in our community. I share and open my wealth of knowledge to the community at large and welcome them to learn through our traditional dance the Mongolian experience and it cultural richness.

As an artist and especially a folk artist, the art is given by elders with the intent that these stories and dances are to return to where they were born and given back to the community so that Mongolian legacy, traditions and history continues to grow and flourish in our youth. As the Mongolian community in the Bay Area continues to flourish and generations are born it is most important that we share our ancestry, traditions and culture with each other. This sharing of cultural ideas and significance creates understanding of each other and a harmonious embrace of each other similiarites and differences. In my travels and experiences on stages all over the world it has been the dancer in us that embraced the new as we honored our ancestors. Sincerely, Darkhijav Damba

I hope to see you at the show.

Introducing Khuh Tenger (Blue Sky) a Mongolian Experience

Mongolian Trio Hand Dance

The folk dances of Mongolia are performed for social, seasonal, and ritualistic moments. These dances though solidly based in folkloric traditions have taken on new meanings and flourishes in this culturally rich city by the bay. As San Francisco bay area continually shines its beacon across the world as a place of significance to a better life and new beginnings to immigrants so does the cultural environments allow for the traditional cultural riches brought to the bay to remain intact. Introducing Velocity School of Mongolian Contortion and Folk Dance

D. Damba photo credit F. Balaguer

Gregangelo & Velocity Arts & Entertainment introduce Darkhijav Damba, "Mongolian Hand-Dancer" and Director of Velocity's School of Mongolian Contortion and Folk Dance Gregangelo & Velocity Arts & Entertainment are pleased to introduce a uniquely gifted artist from the frigid steppes of Mongolia to the national and local scene: East Asian and East European folk dancer, Darkhijav Damba. Darkhia is the recipient of the "Goo Maral" - Mongolia's most prestigious professional award - for Best Dance Group. Received a Grand Prix for Best Dance Group (1998 Korea). She also received several awards while touring , China, Moscow, Japan. Darkhijav is known as one of only two people to have mastered the "Uran Gar," a beautiful dance of mesmerizing arm movements displaying the grace of a woman through her intricate, water-like flow of fingers, hands, and arms. Darkhijav's technique comes from traditional Mongolian folk dance, which often involves precise movements which can be made within a restricted space. As a nomadic people, Mongolians traditionally lived in small, confined spaces and dances were developed that compensated for this lack of space with the expressiveness of movements in the waist, upper body, arms, hands, eyes, and head.

She teaches for Velocity Circus traditional Mongolian dance at the Ballet Russe Dance Center in San Francisco, CA and will be teaching adult and children's Mongolian Folk dance at the performance/rehearsal venue CUE Space in Oakland, CA beginning in February 2010. She is directing the Mongolian programs for Gregangelo and Velocity Arts & Entertainment. above photo by-Francesca Balaguer

Introducing Odgerel Gombo

Odgerel Gombo

Velocity Circus introduces Mr. Gombo as performer and teacher of Mongolian Contortion beginning February 2010. He will be teaching at Velocity's School of Mongolian Contortion and Folk Dance and at the Circus School of Arizona. He is a graduate of the Mongolian State Circus School with an Associate Performer diploma having trained under the most famous contortion teacher Tsend-Ayush. He joined the circus as a performer immediately thereafter. In 1987, he was awarded the Mongolian State Circus annual award as "Most Creative Employee" and in 1988 their "Leading Cultural Employee" award. His most prestigious international awards include the 1989 XII Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain (France) Silver Prize and the 1989 II Wuqiao International Circus Festival (China) Bronze Lion Medal. The French festival (also known as The World Festival of the Circus of Tomorrow) is considered one of the world's premier events for displaying emerging and contemporary new circus artists. The Chinese event acknowledges the long history and importance of circus in China. The Wuqiao Circus has been famous since the Yuan Dynasty and has had influences throughout China and the world. This festival, which debuted in 1987, was established to recognize the best in the field. In 1989, when Mr. Gombo competed, he was one of only 3 Silver Lion Medalists of the 31 acts from 8 countries (2 won Gold and 6 won Bronze).

After performing with the Mongolian State Circus, Mr. Gombo went on to entertain audiences with the Russian State Circus, the Hungarian State Circus, Switzerland's Zirkus Stey and Cirque Starglith (as a guest artist), and Germany's Hansa-Theatre. He freelanced in Belgium and Holland from 2000-2001 appearing in more than 250 corporate events. In 2000, he formed the Chinggis Khan Contortion School in Mongolia where he taught and demonstrated technique for eight years before re-joining a circus troupe (Universoul Circus) as performer, trainer and coach. Mr. Gombo is well-known, respected and praised throughout the worldwide circus community, in part because it is rare to see a male contortionist with such flexibility who is able to perform routines choreographed for women, but also because of the quality and precision of his execution, creativity and versatility.

Velocity Circus creates theatrical performance for the exhibition "Seduction of Duchamp: Bay Area Artists' Response," curated by Hanna Regev. This exhibition and the performance draws its inspiration from the momentous historic West Coast Roundtable on Modern Art discussion held at the old San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1949. This roundtable which featured Duchamp as the main speaker joined by prominent invited guests. The invitees included Robert Goldwater, editor of the Magazine of Art and Associate Professor of Art at Queens College; Alfred Frankenstein, Music and Art Editor of the San Francisco Chronicle; Kenneth Burke, author, literary critic and Professor at Bennington College in Vermont; Andrew Ritchie, Director of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art; Gregory Bateson, the cultural anthropologist; the abstract painter Mark Tobey ; the composer Darius Milhaudl and the architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

The SlaughterhouseSpace at Duchamp Winery in Healdsburg is a venue for the unusual, the experimental, and the avant-garde. Housed in what was once the largest slaughterhouse in Northern California, its first performance launched three years ago. SlaughterhouseSpace is becoming a cultural phenomenon and the audience is growing beyond the environs of Healdsburg. Pat Lenz, owner and director, works independently as well as with other curators and artists to provide the community with alternative experiences. Through the transformative power of art, what was once a killing floor now inspires work that illuminates the experience of living in the 21st century.

Social and corporate excursions in circus arts can be arranged at the Circus School of Arizona in Northern Scottsdale as well as at Children United by Experience in Oakland, CA.

At Events and Adventures they have a different philosophy - Create a naturally fun environment, where you can relax and be yourself along with 20 or 30 other singles who also are there to have fun. When you are relaxed, having fun, and NOT comparing marriage resumes, it is WAY easier to find someone worth dating. Sounds counter intuitive, but its true. Kitten on Keys "Kitten on the Keys" Ramsey's new One-Woman Show!
She's a one-woman band, Silver Screen mash-up character, and whimsical burlesque artist. She has provided many an instrumental accompaniment to the shows of Gregangelo & Velocity Circus. She is Suzanne Ramsey.

Also known as "Kitten on the Keys," Suzanne premieres her story of growing up suburbian, moving to the Big City, and finding her identity as an individual and artist in "Does This Piano Make My Ass Look Big?" With piano, ukulele, and accordian, Kitten accompanies herself on this "adult audiences only" trip through the beginnings of local punk through the glitz of 90s rock and roll. She's a trifle Judy Tenuta, a mad-eye shot of Mae West, with a stir of Shirley Temple's optimism served with sequins galore.

Suzanne Ramsey will debut her solo musical on March 27th-29th and April 3rd - 5th at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory, a theatrical home for emerging and self-producing experimental queer/activist artists.
Directed by Dwayne Calizo and Suzanne Ramsey. Lyrics, words, and music by Suzanne Ramsey.

Photo and design: Larry Utley

Show prices $15 and $20

Gregangelo & Velocity Create Costumes for Pop Icon Katy Perry
Suits sported by Katy Perry's band

Have you heard "I Kissed a Girl"? Katy Perry's signature song got a Grammy nomination and she won the honor of hosting this year's MTV Music Awards.

The fiber optic suits worn by the band of this rocket-rapid singer came from Gregangelo & Velocity Arts' very own costume shop! Gregangelo Herrera is an award-winning costume designer with over 20 years of experience. Not only that, but he works with an incredible team of creative and nimble-fingered artists: Rick Lellinger, Dawn Ryan , Daria Schwartzchild, Darkhijav Damba, and Rebecca Feller. They designed, cut, glued, stitch and finessed these creations to perfection for the Katy Perry Tour. Thanks everyone for making magic happen!

Images are from Katy Perry's sold-out Seattle tour. Gregangelo & Velocity Arts will be working with Katy's producer on further costumes in the near future!

Graphic Design Intern: Taylor Collins
Taylor Collin

During the last month, Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) student Taylor Collins has been interning with the Velocity Arts team, helping us to produce collateral for our show, Heliopolis, and updating the logo of Children United by Experience. She has adapted well to our fast-paced work style and short timelines.

We will be sad to see her go, because she will be graduating from FIDM in March with an Associate's degree in Graphic Design. Evidently, she has experience designing displays for Noah's Bagels, the Crocker Galleria, and Ghirardelli Square.

Taylor is currently building her client base, networking, and is seeking freelance work for visual companies and small businesses to help them express their vision in marketing materials, graphic collateral, and physical displays and sets.

Please contact email her at taylor@taylorthecreator.com or call (805) 801-7874 if you would like to recommend her work to someone.

Taylor's website will be running soon. Click Here.
Family Secrets and a Loaded Camera in Bettina Devin's Hands?!
"The Full Picture" at SF Indie Fest
from The Full Picture

Our business development colleague and talented character actress Bettina Devin is starring in one of the most anticipated features of this year's San Francisco Independent Film Festival. She plays the shutter-happy mother with the caustic glare in The Full Picture, winner of the Grand Prize for "Best Feature" at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.

The Full Picture is an honest and often comical story about how the secrets we keep are more revealing than the truths we tell. The dramatic comedy revolves around Mark Foster, a seemingly regular guy who must introduce his girlfriend to his dysfunctional family while dodging her questions about the Fosters' sordid past.

The Full Picture plays in San Francisco on February 14th, 15th, and in Berkeley on the 21st.

Old Egypt Updated

As if being a ceremonial dancer and snake charmer isn't enough, Heliopolis artist Jim Berenholtz is also a composer and designer who invokes the ancient in the contemporary. Jim has generously agreed to partner with Children United by Experience by donating a major portion of all sales between now and February 15th directly to CUE.

CUE is Fiscal Sponsor for "Kitten on the Keys"
Suzanne Ramsey in residence at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory
Kitten photo by Larry Utley

Suzanne Ramsey, aka Kitten on the Keys, has tickled the ivories with Gregangelo & Velocity Arts since 1998. She fuses a vivacious, kinetic energy and comedic risque humor into her characters and music. Recently, she has embarked on creating a solo musical show at Mama Calizo's Voice Factory. The show brings to light the struggle of fitting in/not fitting in and finally finding the perfect space of individuality and expression. She was recently featured in a great article by Sound Safe and will be hoofing it between Paris and San Francisco as she is being featured in a new film shooting in Paris. The amazing Larry Utley recently held a photo shoot in the Gregangelo Museum and as you can see from the photo above, magic happens!

Mama Calizo's Voice Factory is a home for emerging and self-producing queer artists and activists. The Voice Factory values the process and the product of creative activity equally, believing that all talent is worthy of development, and that artistic expression is essential to community health. Mama Calizo's places special emphasis on supporting the work of queer people of color, transpeople and artists living with HIV/ AIDS.

CUE is happy to support Suzanne Ramsey with fiscal sponsorship along side our creative team for any of her pre-production needs in her new generative journey.

CUE presents Gregangelo & Velocity Circus in "Heliopolis - City of the Sun" at the Randall Museum from February 13 - 15, 2009. The Randall Museum's 188-seat theatre will host this international celebratory mélange featuring Gregangelo's signature Whirling Dervish, Jim Berenholtz's Snake Dance of Shiva, Darkhia Damba in "The Uran Gar" dance of Mongolia, Middle Eastern Belly Dance by Velocity Dance Company including the Raks al Sayf Sword Dance, all accompanied by the polyrhythmic voice of the Dumbek drum, with choreography by Kelsy Hiyakumoto, Associate Artistic Director of Velocity Dance Company.
"Heliopolis - City of the Sun" is an introduction to a season of collaboration between Gregangelo Herrera, and internationally recognized ethnomusicologist James Berenholtz and featuring Mongolian "Uran Gar" dancer Darkhia Damba. In addition, CUE will be profiling the origins and specialties of cast members as part of a series of artistic interviews.

Gregangelo & Velocity Circus is delighted to be part of an event for cultural exchange reflecting the mission of its social benefit organization, Children United by Experience International. "Heliopolis - City of the Sun" is a performance conversation with a vocabulary of movement that encompasses the ancient and modern, a shimmering movement alloy molded in San Francisco of Egyptian, Persian, Mongolian, Arabic, Romani, and Turkick origins. In a time of often heated international rhetoric, Children United by Experience International seeks to open windows between traditions and cultures through rich sensory impressions.

A warm Holiday Story on the Golden Gate Bridge with GG Bridges

Bettina Devin runs out of gas on the bridge....

Bettina Devin, who works for Gregangelo and Velocity Arts and Entertainment, threw on her "va-va-voom Christmas event outfit" and drove off from Marin to a work-related fete in San Francisco last week. As she got to the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza, her car was putt-putting, and she realized she was out of gas. She also realized that, in changing purses, she had left home without her credit card, cash or check. The toll- taker told her to park and seek help inside the bridge headquarters building. Sgt. Cummings and Lt. Rivera "dug into their own pockets and gave me $10 in cash." They turned down her offer to give them a memorized credit card number. Brian of Bridge Services gave her 2 gallons of gas, as they chatted about a mutual friend. Devin calls this "a feel good, grinch be gone, only in San Francisco story. ... Help CUE Ring in the New Year!

CUE needs your support

There is a spark in the eyes, reflecting the soul's fire being stoked, when you see a child inspired. When this inspiration is nurtured, guided and honed, children begin to also see roles for themselves in the community as they grow and prepare for their self- reliant and bright futures.
At Children United by Experience, we work to bring experiences igniting the imagination of youth in the San Francisco Bay Area. In these times of economic downturn, it takes conviction and vision to see past the immediate circumstances and to invest in building a self-confident and strong future generation capable not only in reading, writing, and arithmetic, but also in the creative arts.
Show your appreciation for how the arts nourish and inspire the growth of youth and families by making a gift to CUE this holiday season. Become part of the changes happening at CUE as we prepare the ground for spring with a campaign of strategic planning and re-branding of the organization.
Your gift would help pay for:
arts programming for youth launch
staff member to drive these strategic initiatives
New revenue-generating measures, including an online store
Your support will improve our ability to leverage our vast network of regional and international dancers, musicians, acrobats, filmmakers, and aerialists to introduce and shepherd numerous opportunities for children to become involved in the artistic process.

Southern Hospitality: FIDM class introduced to Marilyn Ambra

I was asked to teach this year after Gregangelo and I lectured at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising here in San Francisco. it was an exciting opportunity for our company to engage with a great group of artists that are enthusiastic and passionate about their art and well on their way to becoming professional working artists in their respective fields. I am teaching a Event Marketing/Planning course dedicated to visual communications students at FIDM. As part of the syllabus I programmed guest speakers into the class that are elite in their fields and can contribute real life experience and knowledge to the course. Marilyn Ambra was our first guest speaker and was a phenomenal asset to our study of event styling. Her passion for the client, ability to communicate with flair and attention to detail ignited the FIDM students and engaged their creative minds!
Marilyn loves the flow of a party, that moment when all elements come together. One moment flows to the next, joy and laughter ripple through the room, and the event sparkles. This is the magic Marilyn looks to create in each of her events. A native San Franciscan, Marilyn inherited her innate warmth and love of people from her mother, a true Southern lady, who taught her the sound principles of Southern hospitality at an early age. With over 15 years of professional event planning experience in radio and television, catering, and weddings, Marilyn developed her talents creating, planning, and managing performing arts and fund-raising galas, gallery openings, publicity and corporate events, and weddings and parties of all sizes.

Velocity Announces Circus School of Arizona in the Press!
Here's an update on Circus School of Arizona, an affiliate of Gregangelo and Velocity Circus. Circus School of AZ is owned and run by core Velocity artist Rachel Stegman. Included below are links to recent press articles.

We are very proud of Rachel, who has returned to her hometown of Scottsdale, AZ to pursue her dream of running a circus school. Within only six months she has built a strong group of circus artists ready to dazzle Arizona audiences. Way to go, Rachel!

Circus School of Arizona
Circus School of Arizona, LLC is now offering Circus Aerial Arts classes in Arizona. Renowned instructor, Rachel Stegman, is teaching group and private classes at Fitness Dynamics in Scottsdale, AZ, at Scottsdale Gymnastics in Scottsdale, AZ, and at Aspire Kids Sports Center in Chandler, AZ.Excerpt from The Arizona Republic: Stegman, 32, knows the craft. She was trained by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.

You could say she "ran away" to the circus in her early 20s, where she perfected her moves from the trapeze to the rope, also known as a corde lisse.
She caught the circus bug as a child, during a family vacation to Club Med, where trapeze lessons were offered. In her teens, Stegman attended a performing arts camp in New York, and at 23, she decided to further her aerial education.

She is managing the Arizona Special Events market and k-12 programming for Gregangelo & Velocity Arts & Entertainment based in San Francisco. She has returned to the Valley, her home, to open the Circus School of Arizona.

Circus School of Arizona
Circus School of Arizona, LLC is now offering Circus Aerial Arts classes in Arizona. Featured young Artist from
Trapeze Arts Youth Aerial Performance Troupe
Abby McPhee, Aerial Artist

We would like to introduce you to an incredible young artist “Abby McPhee.” We were introduced to Abby through her great coach, Janene Davis. Janene has travelled and performed around the world and now partners with Gregangelo & Velocity Circus and CUE to bring extraordinary, elevated and professional growth opportunities to her troupe of aerialists. Abby began her career in the arts as a competitive ice skater, has worked with Velocity circus at special events and this Friday she will be featured in Velocity Circus' Narnia spectacle at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Holiday Lighting Ceremony.

Under the artistic direction and training of Janene Davis, director of Trapeze Arts' Aerial Youth Performance Troupe Abby has excelled and is moving forward in both professional and personal development. Janene's dedication to her student and passion for finding opportunities and elevating development experiences is contagious and aligned with Velocity and CUE's mission of Youth, Arts and Emerging Artists. We look forward to sharing more stories and bios from Janene's troupe of aerialists as we program more with these inspiring young artists and their pasisonate coach!

Who is Trapeze Arts? Have you ever wanted to run away and join the circus? Or maybe you've dreamt of flying through the air or swinging by your knees! Well, we have just the thing for you. Velocity Circus’ “American Icon” wins First Place
At International World Statue Competition

International World Living Statues
Competition attracts audience
of 300,000

Joanne Evangelista & Audrey Rosales win 1st Place

Arnhem, Netherlands —August 26, 2007
Gregangelo & Velocity Circus win 1st Place in Juried
International Living Statue Competition with their entry “American Icon.”

San Francisco artists Joanne Evangelista and Audrey Rosales return victorious from the Netherlands with their first place win in the International World Living Statue Competition in Arnhem, Netherlands, placing their city’s star again on the map as a cutting edge and innovative place for the arts.

The team of artists for the “American Icon” entry was led by native San Franciscan Gregangelo Herrera, Artistic Director for the company.  Joanne Evangelista, a master make-up artist and stylist for the company, created a special effect illusion that took the competition by storm and secured 1st place in the international competition. Audrey Rosales, a native San Franciscan and circus artist, created the gown for the “American Icon” and modeled for the entry.  Her stamina as a circus artist allowed her to stand motionless with her eyes closed for hours as thousands of spectators milled around her excitedly speaking  numerous foreign languages and photographing her.  At one point the installation was causing such a commotion and stir on the streets of Arnhem that the organizer asked Joanne and Audrey to take a break to relieve the congestion.

Contributing artists to the installation include Scott Norlund, Yumei Hou, Bolormaa Batbayar and Jordan L’Moore — House of L’Moore Wigs.   Joanne Evangelista is also the 1st Place winner of the Orlando Face and Body Art International Convention 2007.

The Dervish Poet Rumi writes: Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there...  Where the soul lies down in the grass, where the grass melts into the soul, where the bee from mystic inspiration fills its room with honey."

The artist becomes an alchemist in slumber, as he/she mixes realities and worlds. Upon awakening, he can not express what only the soul knows. So he reaches and surrounds himself with the images and colors that give glimpse to the unseen, the art becoming the call and answer to places beyond sleep.

Join us this evening as  we celebrate the extraordinary 30-year career of Hiroshi Sugimoto and his exhibition at the de Young Museum.
Inspired by the work of Sugimoto, multimedia artist Gregangelo and his team of incredible Velocity Artists become the raconteurs for one evening at the de Young.  In this evening of wonder, they will  create a living statue/painting garden, a Sensorium labyrinth with interactive sense elements,  a 16 Ft "Pyram ID" art installation that utilizes video projections and  interacts with the guests, musical creatures, and an avant-garde film with  poetry.

" Most evenings, the sound of entertainers' traditional dance music floated through our house. By my first year of primary school, I must've heard a good number of rakugo routines, although I didn't really understand them half the time.  I did sense though, that the most important thing to these raconteurs was their childlike wonderment."

—Hiroshi Sugimoto

Girlfest mission is to change peer culture in order to prevent increasing violence against women and girls through education, entertainment and positive representations of women. Featured Artist Tara Bayat

Tara Bayat is our newest member to the GVCT family. born in Egypt she was immediately exposed to a sub culture of internationals that her mother, a San Franciscan, and father, a Iranian, had not been exposed to till they were in their 20's. it was essential to her parents that she and her older sister, Shiva, should get acquainted with the arts. While attending Private British school she became involved with the Cario Opera House at the age of 6 while taking violin lessons. this became a second home for her and she continued to be involved with events at the Opera House including the annual Christmas Choir and a production of "The Sound of Music". At 11 she moved to the Hague, the Netherlands where she attends the International School of the Hague. There she continues to play the violin and and has formed a 6 girl accapella group. Our 15 year old intern is at GVCT to get more acquainted with her passion, a passion that bloomed when she was 3, when she saw "Tommy" on Broadway.

Tara internship is a culmination of CUE & Velocity's commitment to young emerging artists. Through out Tara's internship she will be exposed and contribute to Velocity's marketing, public relations, artist management, creative writing, film editing and living a life in the arts. She is documenting her time here with Velocity and in San Francisco, for a short film project she is required to complete by the end of summer, which will be shown at a fall CUE showcase. She is documenting her day to day on "A day in the life of Velocity Circus" blogspot. visit the blog and drop her a word of encouragement on the comment section!

Recap of Gregangelo & San Francisco Symphony Event / June 14, 2007
Gregangelo creates dreamscape fantasyland

The San Francisco Symphony invited Gregangelo to work his magic for the opening of the Prokofiev Festival on Thursday, June 14 by designing and creating a "black tie chic" after-party in War Memorial Veterans Building based on the story "For the love of Three Oranges" . Gregangelo and his great team of artists, support staff and incredible production team transformed the venue into magical art instillations complete with fantasy characters like "The Fairy" as pictured and played by Shannon Gaines. These magical characters added an extra punch to the exciting rooms and brought the story and instillations to life! It was a pleasure to see the genuine smiles and laughter as symphony guests played and became enveloped in the enchantment. A special thank you to everyone who helped make this evening happen especially Jennifer Franks for believing in the magic and thank you to Drew Alitzer for capturing the essence and ambiance of the evening through his beautiful photography. To see more images of the event and Drew's work click on the link below.

WATCH YOUTUBE VIDEO OF VELOCITY PRIDE FLOAT
Thank you to all our Artists and Friends for making it happen!

Gregangelo & Velocity Circus created a San Francisco/Circus fantasy themed float for this years SF Pride 2007. Included in the dreamscape were 50 artists of all disciplines and ages including members of the Circus Center's Youth Circus.

It was especially moving to have Oriana and Sofia Quesada participate, they recently had an uncle pass and this was a way for them to remember and pay tribute to him on this day. Overall the importance of why we participated in SF PRIDE was to celebrate the diversity of our community. To remember our friends and family that have passed on due to aids, or victims of hate crimes, to note the disease of being ostracized and separated from our families due to prejudices is still alive and well, and especially to remember that across the continent, across the world or perhaps in our own back yard, there continues to be a struggle of recognizing each other's individuality. On this day we celebrated our individuality and helped celebrate for those who could not be here. This certainly was the spirit of our Velocity Circus contingent.

A discotheque occupies an entire planet situated somewhere in intergalactic space. As is the case for all Saturday night hot spots, entry into the disco can be difficult. A customs officer handpicks the clientele very selectively. For one inoffensive crank in particular, admission is very difficult. The discotheque attracts an odd clientele ‚ extraterrestrials and creatures of the sun!
